MSD boxes, a motor, and a tune

Post by RIKIL » Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:49 pm

I am using an A9P with a supercharged 351W, very large cam, performer intake, twisted wedge heads.

Not too long ago I was ready for a tune on the dyno and before I went, it was suggested that I remove the MSD 6 BTM I had installed because the tune was going to take care of that compensation the MSD supplies. The guy who tuned the engine agreed. But can someone tell me how the tune can eliminate this?

There's a machine shop that's going to put together a motor for me and the guy is concerned about this pushing 9.5:1 CR and not having the timing adjusted properly. He is advising me to go closer to 9.0:1.

Also, the more I think about it, couldn't I benefit from a simple MSD 6a box?

Thanks.

boost is airflow u can set the ecu to retard timing with more boost/airflow

an msd6a box would give u a little hotter spark if u want

ask the tuner to print out your ignition map and a load curve so u can see exactly what u got
