New Member says Hi

Post by Dave2302 » Mon Dec 03, 2012 8:37 am

I hope I'm in the right forum here, I would just like to say Hi.

My name is Dave, and I'm 50 years young.
I've been a petrol head all my life and am now a Semi Retired Auto Transmission Specialist.

I live in a remote part of NW Scotland near the Isle of Skye bridge.
I have mapped easier ECU's like aftermarket one with user friendly software, but never played with EECV.

I have a rally car I built from scratch, Ford Puma, with 4x4 Ford Sierra running gear, and a 3.0 litre V6 24V Cosworth FBE Engine.
am currently running it on a 1997 "RUTH" Mondeo V6 Manual Trans ECU and whist it doesn't run too bad, I need to tweak it.

There seems to be little support for European EECV so as far as I can tell I need to build my own def file, in order to use my Tuner Pro RT and Moates Gear, and ultimately to re-flash my ECU. It is initially how to build the def file that I will need help with.

Enough about me, once again Hello

Regards Dave

There's another member here, sailorbob, that has done extensive def file development and has experience tuning and working with the Cosworths. There's a good chance he already has a def file for you. If not, you could talk to him to find out what it'd take to get one.

If you are looking to develop a def file on your own, that's a far bigger project to take on as a newbie than most any mechanical project you've ever done. I would applaud anybody willing to try, but being realistic, it's far easier said than done. The good news is it can be done. Others have proven that. But out of the hundreds or possibly thousands of DIY tuners that have visited this forum for help, guidance, and advice, I could probably count the fortified def developers on this forum with my fingers and have fingers left over.

Anyway send forum user sailorbob a PM and see what he has or can do. If that doesn't work out, the other person to contact here would be Adam (username POPSRACING).

If you do end up being one of the elite def developers, there's the EECGeeks forum dedicated to EEC def development tuner talk. Threads there delve into assembly, disassemblers, processor peripheral details, interupt handling, and all sorts of Computer Sciency kind of discussions.

Thanks Guys.

I realise how much work creating my own def files will be, but tbh I don't really have much option.

I do a lot with these V6 Cosworth engines in Rally Cars and ability to map them is going to be a godsend, I really don't want to go aftermarket ECU Route.

Sadly the V6 Cosworth's own "EXIT" ECU is Auto Trans only, but I've got 2 Cars running on 2.5 litre V6 Duratec Manual Mondeo "RUTH" ECU's at the moment and they don't run too bad, a datalog on a standard car shows they are very slightly rich, and that's no bad thing as we use freer intake's, de cat them and use freer exhausts too
The strategies are EXIT = ABARO and RUTH = ATAFF, in case anyone knows anything about these 2 Strategies.

ATM I'm waiting on Moates Hardware, to get the Bin files extracted from the 2 ECU's.
Then I'm getting a couple of guys who have done this before to take a look at the bins and hopefully they wll be similair to an existing def file so I won't have too much trouble creating my own def files..................

But I'm prepared for the long haul, and although my knowledge is limited at the moment I'm learning rapidly

Cheers for now

Dave
