air filter get wet

Post by n97343 » Mon Dec 17, 2012 6:14 pm

I installed a vortex supercharger, the air filter was installed low in the front fender, so low the air filter get wet while driving in the rain. I don't hear of others having this problem. Is there a better place to have the air filter?

Is the inner fender splash shield in the wheel well still installed? I have my meter and air filter deep in the fender and have no issues. It can be installed in the engine compartment depending on how everything is configured but then your sucking in hot air.

The inner fender splash shield are installed. During heavy rain it will stall , buck and in general run crappy. I was thinking about moving the air filter into the engine bay. I just didn't really want to re tune the maf after being moved.

Maybe the housing can be shortened to move the filter up more? Or some sort of a splash shield fabricated to protect it better? I would need to see a pic of it on your car to see where its positioned. I have mine in the fender with a power pipe and i have no issues.

Vortech made us put it in a tough spot for 94-95
This is how mine sits. What I would do is shorten the mounting bracket and cut that cloth pipe shorter.
I haven't done this myself because my stang is dry weather only, and I have thought about it thanks to the yellow paint on my air filter. But I feel it would get better air than if i would be tucked up higher in the fender.

What about one of those filter covers that is hydrophobic? I've never used one, but the Honda guys around here swear by them.

Thanks for posting the pictures, winter and work has slowed me way down. I'm trying to move the air filter higher in the fender well. I have tried to seal the inner fender and add a filter cover, but it has alway chocked out the air flow . The next step will be trying to make my own intake track. Any idea's.

move battery to trunk, and get an intercooler with inlets on both sides and run piping over to where the batter once was and put your filter there. or leave it in the fenderwell but pointing up.
