Mark VIII Tach signal
My buddy has an '00 Mazda B2500 with a '98 Mark VIII DOHC swap. Of course, his tachometer doesn't work, as the Mark VIII used a proprietary databus system to the instrument cluster, where as the truck just had a "tach output" pin on the computer, which is pin #48. Now, I noticed on the Mark VIII computer, pin 48 is unused. Does anyone know if that pin still outputs a valid tachometer signal, despite not being used?
Re: Mark VIII Tach signal
Howdy Leadhead,
On the EEC-V ecu's wiring harness pin #48 is for the tach. I don't think the ecu pits out a "special" signal because I'm using an EEC-V ecu and my AutoMeter tach works.
Easy way to find out is to connect pin 48 to the input side of the tach. The only problem I see is that you're using a V-8 and either a 4 or 6 cylinder tach so your tach will always read wrong.

Re: Mark VIII Tach signal
The Mark VII ECU is unique in that it doesn't use the tach output that most EEC-V ECU's have. Pin 48 is hooked up to nothing. It used a Ford databus to communicate to the cluster.
So I don't know if Pin 48 on this ECU actually does anything at all.

Re: Mark VIII Tach signal
you will need to put the missing hardware in the ecu and successfully enable the code in the ecu
i tuned a few ac cobra kit cars that run the 98 mark8 ecu, they all had the tach converter on them

Re: Mark VIII Tach signal
Tach converter? Does it run off an injector wire or something?
Re: Mark VIII Tach signal
I know this is an old post, but I wanted to share my experience, as I was looking for info on this topic and not finding much at all online.
I have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator DOHC 5.4 I transplanted onto my 96 Mustang GT. I’m using the Navi harness and ECU as I wanted true COP, which it already had.
The Navigator had a data bus style instrument cluster just like the Mark VIII, so no tach output wire at pin 48 from the ECU.
I figured I didn’t have anything to lose, so I pinned a wire into the #48 cavity, hooked it to my stock Mustang tach wiring, and it works great!
So, just because there isnt anything coming from pin 48 on your EEC-V harness, that doesn’t mean the ECU won’t output a tach signal!
