Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sensor
Putting a PMAS slot meter on an A9L EEC4. I purchased the adaptor.
The PMAS slot meter adapter has two wires coming off of it for the ACT, but there is no connector. The connector plug, on my harness, plugs onto the manifold sensor. I would like to get a connector, to solder the wires to, that would allow the PMAS adapter to plug right into my harness. I do not want to alter (cut solder) the harness in the car.
Is there a connector for sale for this purpose, or do you have to cut up a manifold sensor and use it?
If you do cut up the old sensor, are there any suggestions on where to cut and how?

Howdy olddog,
Cut and soldier. That's what I did. Luckily my wires were long enough to got from the ACT sensor to the MAF sensor so I cut of the connector, added an expanding braided sleeve and heat shrink tubing, soldier the wires together, covered the wires with the sleeve, shrunk the heat shrink tubing and PRESTO! it looks OEM.

Re: Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sen
If your vehicle has an aluminum intake manifold, I think you'd probably be better off using the manifold ACT sensor. Aluminum manifolds heat the air up a lot more than the modern plastic ones do.
Re: Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sen
It is an Edel Vic Jr single plane, which is aluminum, but it is an air gap design. There is a floor that seals the oil in the lifter gallery. Then the intake runners are a couple inches above that surface, such that air flows between them. Not nearly as much heat transfer as the factory design, but I'm sure there is still more than a plastic intake on a modular engine.LeadHead wrote:If your vehicle has an aluminum intake manifold, I think you'd probably be better off using the manifold ACT sensor. That's why I do not want to cut up my harness. I want to be able to change back and forth by just plugging to one sensor or the other.

Re: Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sen
Howdy olddog,
I too am running a Vic Jr intake and it will still heat up to +150 degrees on a hot day.
I cannot imagine why you would want to switch from one sensor to the other.
Also, while the engine is running, especially at higher rpms the air charge will NOT be in the intake long enough to absorb any heat from the intake manifold and an intake mounted sensor will "heat soak" and give a false air charge temp reading.
There's a reason why Ford moved the act sensor from the intake manifold to the MAF sensor.

Re: Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sen
Let me clarify. I meant I want the ability to go back to the other sensor, if I ran into a problem. No plans to switch back and forth.
Since I am using a modified carb intake, I thought it was possible I might run into something that others never saw.
So are you running a Vic Jr carb intake with welded in injection bungs, same as me?

Howdy olddog,
Yes, I'm running a 4-barrel style Vic Jr intake with injector bungs that were welded in by Mass-Flo.
Here's a pic:

Curious. Did you swap out the eec 4, or did it come with eec 5? Have you looked at massflow new ecu?

Re: Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sen
Howdy olddog,
It's strictly a scratch built EFI system. Since Ford never built a distributorless 351W I had to fab several parts.
The intake was modified by Mass-Flo and the fuel rail is from them but that's as far as it goes.
The TB is an 850cfm Holley double pumper base plate that was modified to accept a TPS sensor.
I'm running a Fox IAC valve with a mounting bracket the bolts to the throttle bracket bolt holes on the intake.
The wiring harness is a modified 4.6 V-8 EEC-IV that I cut the 60 pin plug off of, added extra wires and soldier on an EEC-V 104 pin plug. I probably have spent 40 hours building the wiring harness.
For a cam sensor I used the body of a MSD cam sync plug ( think distributor ) that produced a Hall Effect signal and converted it to a VR signal as required by the EEC-C ecu.
I used a 36-1 crank trigger wheel from DIY and fabed a mount for the sensor.
Some of the harder things to figure out is the crank and cam sensor timing.
Lots of work and I still have a ways to go.

Wow. That took a lot of knowledge and skill. My hat is off to you. I realize the satifaction in doing the work, over paying someone to do it for you.

Re: Changing ACT from manifold sensor to PMAS slot meter sen
I know the air temp reading will be much cooler, when I use the slot meter sensor. I know I have seen, somewhere, a suggestion of what the ACT spark table should be changed to. I have searched for hours and I cannot find it again. Can someone point me in that direction?

Typically
ACT in manifold is ~180
ACT in inlet ~90
obviously cooler in cooler weather
