Step one, install QH.

Post by lhcmustang » Sat Apr 04, 2015 8:44 pm

That didn't work out so well. First time working with the QH.

Installed the QH and hooked up to the laptop. Started the motor and it ran crappie. Idled rough, smoke from the exhaust and throttle was slow to respond. Removed the QH, and the engine runs as it did before. What am I missing?

You may not have configured your hardware/software properly. Did you load a tune to the hardware?

Opened BE on laptop, selected CBAZA strategy and T4M0 calibration that came from Clint with purchase of BE and EA. Both were displayed on the bottom of the screen. Hooked up USB cable and at the bottom right a green light came on and a Quarterhorse message came on for several seconds.

Then selected a display to monitor ACT, ECT, RPM, VBAT, Spark and Load. Turned KOEO, I was expecting to see some data but nothing. Also noticed the fuel pump would not shutoff and it normally does after 5 secs or so.

I'm missing something here. I ran into the same issues when doing tuning some years back on a Chevy TBI with hardware from MOATs.

Am I suppose to see live data when KOEO?

Why does fuel pump not shut off?

Thanks
Brian

Did you enable quarter horse under the hardware tab? Also did all the drivers load properly?

OK I'm done for today. Do I have to remove and reinstall the QH each time I want to tune? It runs like crap with the USB plugged into the laptop or not.

Thanks

If the fuel pump runs constantly, either your tune is corrupt or the QH is not making good contact with the J3 connector.

When you remove the QH you are going back to your stock tune.
Did you read YOUR tune that was in the EEC (that ran fine) and then write it to the QH? I bet that would work.

It's been a while but I think you connect BE to the QH then click on the FORD (READ) icon in BE and it will load the stock tune from the EEC. Then you can write that to the QH memory. Oh and save your stock EEC tune somewhere.

It sounds like you installed the QH and are running some calibration you downloaded which is probably not set up for your engine specs, MAF, Injectors, etc etc

Did you start data logging? The dash gauges only display readings when data logging is running.

Several hours after that post I found a thread describing why the fuel pump runs constantly. I did not have a tune loaded on the QH.

Thanks for the response

Once I loaded the tune in the QH and started the engine it was showing data. I selected data logging for several minutes and then stopped. Went to look later on the laptop to review and could not find the logging file in the designated folder.

Glad that you got it working.

When in the logging view there are icons to the right and one has something about selecting where to save it.
If you don't change it you will either find it under Programs/Binary Editor or C:/Binary Editor. I can't remember which but both of those folders are created with the application.

I change mine to my Microsoft Onedrive folder for my saved files and calibrations etc because I am using both my Tablet to tune the car and my main PC inside to sit comfortably at when I do some major changes or when I like to view the datalogs.

What tablet? My laptop is to large to find a spot in the jeep.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the response.
originally had a spare IBM Thinkpad but I picked up a used Surface pro for a deal at $350 last summer. The guy paid like $1200 for it and it was still in great condition.

You can detach the keyboard.

For a Surface it has to be a "PRO" which means it runs an intel CPU and not the mobile processor.
This way it will run full software like Binary Editor, etc.

Mine has the i5 Processor with 4 Gigs of RAM.
It is a fast tablet. No lag to run photoshop, etc and certainly no lag to load and run Binary Editor.

You can sometimes find them used. Just make sure it is a "PRO".

Most people with the non pro "RT" etc don't know what they got and call it a "PRO RT" and all sorts of silly names. So be careful because an "RT" or the "Surface" that is not the "PRO" model will not run this software.

It is small enough that I should be able to device a mount for it to connect to my dash.
It is something like a 10" tablet.

The Surface Pro 3 is a little bigger as they added height to that model.

Here's a video of me demonstrating mine when I first got it.
I did have to get another Serial to USB adapter that worked better than the old one I had to keep my Wideband interface working right.
