Are narrow band o2 sensors pretty much all the same?

Post by oharris » Thu Jun 30, 2016 12:06 pm

I decided to upgrade my 1 wire sensor to a 4 wire sensor on my 2.3T swap. I'm running an LA3 computer which used a 3 wire originally. A 4 wire seemed like an upgrade. I used an old sensor I had laying around from an explorer but now it's running really rich (according to my Wideband anyway). I tested the narrow band with a propane torch and I could just barely get it to .8V so I think that is my problem. Should I just get another explorer sensor or is there a better option? Are narrow band sensors pretty much all the same?

Thanks in advance.

If you didn't run the signal ground all the way back up to the computer, then the 4 wire is not really an upgrade at all.

I did run the HEGO ground from the computer to the sensor ground on the 4 wire sensor (it was connected to the turbo housing) and the heater wires to power and ground.

I did not check the voltage, but I did go ahead and replace it with a new Motorcraft sensor. I haven't driven it much, just around the block a couple times, but it now runs much closer to stoic.
