PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
I've been trying to find out if I can disable the PATS system in my truck. This is the only parameter I have found that has PATS associated with it.
Can anyone tell me if this is where I disable it? I've tried setting it to 1 but then the truck won't start. I've only started using BE a couple weeks ago so I am quite a newbie. Any help with this is appreciated!

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
pats should already be disabled
I did a bunch of disassembly on the 06 ranger strat prdo0 which was the last of the eec-v ecu's and it had pats disabled
all the rangers i'd ever messed with had pats disabled in stock form as well

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
When I changed the value to 0, the truck just cranked and cranked but I did not get a flashing Theft light. I set it back to 1 and tried starting with a unprogrammed key the engine would not even crank and the theft light flashed. I don't get it!

You said you have worked with alot of the Ranger defs? Do you have an XAR1 def with that in it or is it possible to just add it to mine? I'm doing tons of reading and just ordered the book from LaSort for BE but I still don't understand most of this stuff.

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
you can download the prdo0 strat off my website i posted it on the homepage not too long ago
I can post up a stock bin if u want to load it in and see if it functions correctly
the ecu and thus bin i have specifically came out of a 5spd 2006 ranger 4cyl DOHC i think 2.3L
its setup for single plug per cylinder from the factory
nvm your ecu is a 4L ecu, thats not gonna woek wothout some extensive tune changes
best bet is to just get a strat made

Do you think it's something CoreTunning can add to the strat?

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
Still no luck with this! Ben was remotely connected to me while talking with Clint and nothing we tried worked! I have also talked to Don Lasota and his exerience with SCT is hit or miss. Sometimes it works but other times it don't. It's very frustrating! I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars just to get my new keys and remote start bypass module to work! I paid $80 to get another key made so I would have two and could program the others but it doesn't work. I got the key from my local True Value store and I guess because the programming is different, I can't program the other keys! It just doesn't work! I'm so aggrevated right now!

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
The PYBD2 strategy does not have the PATS_DISABLE parameter and in strategies that only have the PATS_DM_FLG parameter you cannot disable the PATS.

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
hey derek if it has the dm flag parameter does it not have the pats alternate switch like the 03/04 luxury sedans? i disable pats in them no problem
Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
I think the PATS_DM_FLG is being called "Alternate PATS SW".

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
So there is no way for me to disable the PATS? I also have a PYBD3; is it the same situation?sailorbob wrote:The PYBD2 strategy does not have the PATS_DISABLE parameter and in strategies that only have the PATS_DM_FLG parameter you cannot disable the PATS.
Is there anything I can do? Thank you for your input!

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
Oh, someone suggested that I just relocate the PATS ring from around the ignition tumbler to a place up under the dash and tape the head of a chipped key to it. Sounds like it may work.

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
Whilst I haven't seen the PYBD3 strategy I would expect it to be the same as the PYBD2 strategy for it's PATS control.

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
What about a "Hack"? I'm not even 100% what that is but I was told an experienced tuner could hack the parameter into my tune. From what I have read, it does sound like it's just that easy.

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
a "hack" is rewriting code to make the ecu do something henry never intended it to
yea its just that easy, once you go through it and see xactly what the ecu is doing you can simply rewrite the pats code and either make it either report good to an external module (PATS-E) or just ignore it for PATS-B/C type
the only problem is to get to that point might take you several hundred hours or even several thousand hours if your less experienced
heres a basic how to on how to do it yourself

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
Impressive write up! I guess what I don't get is why some people say they have worked with tunes for my truck and have seen the Pat disable work. Why would some tunes have it and others not? Why does Ford use different tunes in the same model vehicle?

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
all ford ecus are basically the same, especially when you get in to the eec-Vs, there was only a handful or so different eec-v class ecu's ever manufactured, AFAIK all 96-04 fords use one of them 8 or so "class" ecus
pats can be disabled on all startegies it just depends on how much support you have for it
if someone has disabled pats with your same strategy just ask them to send you a tune with pats deleted and tune from there
the strategy is the result of code changes, the catch code is those changes, everytime an update is made to meet either emissions or driveability etc... results in an updated catch code (tune) and possibly even an updated strategy if henry needed to change the code to meet that standard etc...

Re: PATS disable in XAR1 (03 Ranger)
I actually did ask and was told he (LaSorta) has literally hundreds of customers filed by name and not by vehicle. He said it would take hours, if not days, to try and find one that matched mine and worked!if someone has disabled pats with your same strategy just ask them to send you a tune with pats deleted and tune from there
Doesn't matter now because the truck is dead! Something broke internally! I'm going to rebuild it from the frame out replacing the engine with a 302 so I will be using a different tune. Thanks for trying to help!
