Throttle % and shifts...
Hey guys, I have a question on my project that is leaving me a little uncertain. Here is what it is, 95 ford ranger splash with a 2006 f150 4.2l v6(comp cams smallest cam, roller rockers port and polish nothing special) 4R70W 4x4 EEC is from a 03 E150.
I have had it together still working out little things with it, rear gear hasn't been changed out yet to match the 3.73 front so it is still 3.27. taking off normal each shift it feels like power is being cut down, taking off is pretty sluggish(trans parts shop gave me a low stall converter instead of what it calls for). Watching on my torque app each time it shifts my throttle % gets cut down without my angle changing, I have never seen this before, has anyone else? If I go WOT it will sit at 95% without moving is this something in the processor? I didn't add in the fuel tank pressure sensor or one of the EVAP sensors but I don't see that causing a limp mode or anything, or am I mistaken?
I tried asking somewhere else, just got silly your TPS is bad. I am planning to either buy the software to shut the emissions components that are not there or send it off to the tuner. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Curtis

What are you currently tuning and datalogging with?

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Not tuning with anything yet...I can datalog with my torque app.
Re: Throttle % and shifts...
I'm thinking its a torque truncation issue since the front and rear gears aren't matched clipping the max tps.

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
The EEC uses one speedo tone ring set up on the back of the transfer case on the rangers. The front uses tone rings on the rotors and standard set up in the rear both at front and rear just for ABS, threw me for a loop before. I have another 4.2 econoline EEC processor I have was thinking about swapping in to see if anything changes. I will do some checks when I get up(currently stuck on 3rd shift at work and in a zombie like state).

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Well I didn't see that one coming, swapped EEC, drove it whole different feel, lack slightly from the gear but still no more dropping off throttle% with each shift just into overdrive.

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Interesting. Are you seeing 100% now?

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Coming in at 98%, at WOT. Everything else looks good. This weekend get track bar set up for rear suspension on mock up chassis and get swapped ASAP.
Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Is this drive-by-wire?
Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Being the engine is a 06 F150 4.2 it was, the 4.2 freestar vans were cable driven still so I picked up one of those upper intakes. Exact same thing just has IAC, and a cable driven TB.
Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Then I have no idea why the reported TP would drop. Doesn't make sense.
Re: Throttle % and shifts...
Has the tps voltage been measured at the tps? Is it possible the discrepancy in the tps voltage on your display and actual tps at the sensor is attributable to resistance or voltage drop off within the length of wire?

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
I probed connector with my needle fittings watched on my DVOM, it swept as it should. Here is the real odd thing, the EEC I swapped in place of the one I was having issues with came from a E250, my AC would kick on and off a second later, I found with the other EEC(one that was giving me problems from a 03 E150) the AC relay 87 and 87A were backwards to what the ranger wanted. The 02 E250 was same as the ranger, but I swapped the E150 back to check the AC was fine, drove it no issues shifted like it was supposed to.

Re: Throttle % and shifts...
i would think the e would be setup for a 4r100 trans instead of a 4r70w, i suppose not if it were a v6 though
