what is this chip?
here: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/5 ... ost4003562
looks like it's a replacement for a stock rom, but who makes it?

Re: what is this chip?
Not sure what chip your referring to. The only mention of a chip in that thread is the SCT.

Re: what is this chip?
Agreed.
The service port edge connector is where you install tuning devices. Tuning devices can be simple chips OR they can be more complicated devices like the TwEECer or Moates Quarterhorse which interact with a PC to allow you to update tunes without removal of the chip and to perform realtime datalogging.

Re: what is this chip?
I'm assuming you are referring to that component on a daughter board with a hand-written white label. That's the "old school" way of replacing a ROM. This is the Chevy EEC way of having to upgrade a ROM. Because Ford put that edge-connector on the EEC, that's not necessary. You can get the same EXACT result by putting a chip on the edge connector WHILE keeping the stock chip right where it is on the main board. It's possible this setup is something Cardone did if they couldn't acquire standard DIP chips.

Re: what is this chip?
It's not an official product moates sells, but he developed that device for certain racing classes that banned external chips or chips that plug in. So by replacing the internal rom chip with your tune it would be possible to pass tech inspection. It's supposed to be able to be programmed while it's installed with a special cable and a burn2.

Re: what is this chip?
I never knew about that rule OR that Moates had a work-around for that rule. What was the reason for that rule in the first place given it can be skirted via direct chip replacement?ironmanisanemic wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2018 12:57 am It's not an official product moates sells, but he developed that device for certain racing classes that banned external chips or chips that plug in. Re: what is this chip?
I believe it was a loophole that is being exploited. Something about having to be stock in appearance or something like that. It's been years since I was told about them. Can't remember the exact rule that was being worked around.

Re: what is this chip?
