Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Cardone or Standard Remanufactured computers

Post by TonyF » Wed Oct 05, 2005 2:29 pm

Any have any experience with a reman ECC? They are much less expensive than a 15 year old computer on eBay. And a one year warranty to boot!
The main problem I'm having is identifying which reman computer I need. The Zone and Midway list computers with part numbers like F3ZF-FB, E9ZF-CA and E9ZF-AA. Is there a reference somewhere that will tell me which one is the A9L or P?
I assume the tweecar will work with a reman computer.

Thanks again,

Tony

Thanks Ryan, you da man! Cardone $96.96 at Advance Auto, plus a core. Unbelievable -- I just saw an "original" go for $132.50 + shipping on eBay. Do you have that page hidden somewhere? I sure could not find it eariler today.

Will the tweecar connect to it? Or does Cardone have their own flavor?

Anyone have any experience with the reman units?

I have ~ 100 pages on my site, it's hard to list them all.

When I did my conversion I bought a A9L from A-1 Cardone and it was bad. I sent it back twice. They kept telling me that I was not hooking it up right.

I proceeded to tell them that I swap in a good known one with no error codes. They just refunded me the money and I bought one out of a wrecking yard with the MAF for $75.

Just my experience.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but the same thing could have happened with an eBay or salvage yard computer. At least you had some recourse.

Anyone else? Standard and Borg Warner also offer reman units. I saw a few posts saying good things about the Standard over on correl.net.

I have 2 Standard units that I had bought a while back and have not had any problems with them so far (knock on wood).

The computer went out on my son's 91 Plymouth Laser a while back. I didn't believe it at first because there was a little spark, but no fuel and no errors. Anyway I bought a Cardone reman for $280 and the car did not idle as well as it had with the old computer before it went bad. I noticed the numbers were nothing like the ones on the unit I removed. I assumed these were programming numbers. We kept it, and then sold the car :-) Hooray! But I was not impressed with what I got from Cardone i.e. numbers didn't match and poor idle. Several folks told me that these Laser computers all eventually fail the same way ours did so it didn't seem to make any sense to try to get one from the bone yard. My sense is that Ford's EEC's are pretty bullet proof and a wrecking yard unit is low risk. Just my opinion.

Thanks guys. I spoke with one of the local Mustang racers, he mentioned that he knows of many people using the Cardone's with no issues. I have though, in general heard less bad things about the Standards than the Cordones.

2Shaker, one of my biggest fears is not getting the correct reman unit, though Ryan has a cross reference on his site that's been helpful. There's enough subtle differences in the models that could mean the difference between running good and a dog.

Thanks
