Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Lean Spike? Not accepting fuel? Please take a look.

Post by foxbodyman » Thu Apr 12, 2007 5:38 pm

Hey guys,

Finally made it to the dyno last week, pleased with the numbers so far but have a problem from 4500 to 5500? I went in to adjust the MAF transfer but for some reason it would not take it. I feel sure that I have plenty of injector and pump(s) so something is acting up? Any Ideas? Thanks..

What do you mean the MAF transfer would not take it? Do you mean the values you were putting in TwEECer wouldn't "stick", or are you saying no matter how much you richened the MAF curve the car was lean at the high RPM's?

If you have enough fuel volume to keep it rich near redline then you should be able to keep it rich in the mid to upper RPMs. Are you finding out what voltage your mass air meter is when showing lean on the curve and then lets say richening it 3-5% in points XX-YY and that makes no effect on the AF curve??? or are you saying that the numbers arent saving in your MAF transfer function????

Maybe it's a function or table coming into play that is causing the lack of enrichment?

The only thing that has burned me in the CBAZA strategy is over enrichment at high RPM due to high ACT because of the blower. I've not observed any table or function that does the opposite - i.e. lean the mixture at high RPM/load.

I guess we still need him to tell us if the changes are not saving in CalEdit or if they're saving but it's not richening as he expects.

Sorry about that, let me clear that up. YES it is saving in caledit when I change the kg/hr values(numbers).

But, AF would still not get in range after I made the changes. I tryed it 3-4 diffrent times resulting in about 20% richer. I know for sure that we ARE NOT pegging the meter, 4.12-4.20 Max volts after dataloging.

When I bought the PMS Pro Tube I Never did the 9pt to 30pt conversion, I just adjusted accordingly to my wide band. Wonder if it will help to convert it so I have my voltage and kg/hr all in the right place for the Maf Transfer?

I dont know why you just wouldnt convert the 9 to 30. just put 0, 0 as the first number and put the other 9 points into the converter in caledit. It takes all of 3 minutes to generate the 30 point function. I did this when I got my protube and only had to lean the curve at points 24-25 by 1-2% to acheive the desired 11.6:1 A/F ratio in my OL fuel map.

Now I still dont see even with your transfer function how adding 20% richening in the area of lean isn't doing anything to your AF curve.

I assume your numbers in your OL fuel table are all somewhere around 11.5?? maybe a 12.5 got accidently saved in that table or something?? Have you tried moving those number closer to 11.0-10.5 to see if that has any effect on your AF curve. Just some thoughts, I am no expert.

Actually now that im looking at your dyno graph you have a ton of mid range hp and dont really have the redline surge you see with some turbo's. do you have a low A/R on that turbo???

Since you make the most power in the area where it is lean you may indeed have a fuel volume issue... are those dual 255's an inline/intank?? what size are your lines?? do you have stock rails??? What type of regulator do you have?? changed your fuel filter recently??

Not sure why I didn't convert to the 30pt to begin with either. I was so close with the C & L meter (Luckly) I just trimmed it up. =)
Anyway, I agree what with what your saying since most of my peak power is in the midrange, Could be running out of volume. I have a 255 Inline and intank with the 42's. On my older S/C mustang I was good for 500rw with 100 octane. So thats why I wonder with less power, but the turbo does come in so much quicker so maybe it could be effecting it.
Yes, still have stock lines and rails.

what about a regulator?? changed the fuel filterr recently???

you should be running a Kirban regulator, if your running a stock regulator I would bet thats your problem.

anyway to view your FP or datalog your FP during a redline blast??

The FP seems to be holding all the way through the RPMs, I will check it agein to see if there is any dips. I hope its just a volume problem. Probley a good time for a new filter as well.My Kirban is a few years old but seems to be working fine, Thanks for the help man.

So I have decided, I have a set 50's left over, and the aeromotive 1000 fuel system is nothing but a good idea.So I don't have to upgrade it down the road. :D

Did change your max load from .90 (90%) to something like 1.5 (150%) in the
fuel and spark tables for the added load you see with the turbo?

Hey Dale,

I have NOT adjusted the Load Scaling yet. Was not sure how much a difference that would make? When I datalog the runs I see around 160-165% ,does this make a diffence when fine tuning the maf?
thanks,

Set them to 1.99 (199%) load if you are already at 165% now.
You will have to adjust the spark/fuel tables when this is complete.

Also datalog load at idle to make sure that it is not to far out
of range......

Also what is you load scaling switch currently set to? This will effect
how load is calculated.

Then you can worry about injector, maf, fuel etc.

I have the Load scaling switch at = 0 , I am at the track this weekend with another car duing some tuning and am have the same problem with it NOT adding fuel, so I must be doing something wrong.

I will post everything I have and have not done. =)
