Corrupt files?

Post by mdp » Fri Aug 08, 2003 4:31 pm

I seem to be having the same problem others have reported that involves data getting trashed when it is read into the Tweecer. I'm starting to wonder if the problem is an incompatibility with the Cobra electronics and the 1.2B3 software- I appears that most of the reports involve the SN95 Cobras and the J4J1 program.

I have a 95 Cobra with the Incon system which includes a calibrated 80 mm MAF, big fuel pump, and 30 lb injectors. I first tried all the recommended settings and updated the MAF transfer function to the 9-point settings provided by Best- the car idled smoother than with stock setings, but would die as soon as the clutch is released. I then reread the EEC and wrote it to all the stations to clean everything out, then read in only a test tweek with only the updated MAF function and the injector slopes (both 30s so far). The car idles a little better, but it dies when the accelerator is pressed and stays stalled until the accelerator pedal is let up. The test tweek allows use of the clutch which is a small improvement over the recommended SN95 tricks.

I read and saved the test program- the MAF function table looks fine, both in the CCF file and when the ECU is read, but I'm just not convinced that the EEC is seeing the same code that Caledit implies it should- the car should run much better with only MAF and correct injector settings, but it does not.

The car drives with a lot of power with the stock setup, but the idle is too low, too rich, and it lopes until it eventually dies; the emissions are way too rich to pass at idle, the engine stalls when comming to a stop, and the most irritating, the car surges when it coasts downhill and the engine keeps going when I want to brake- that can be dangerous with 450-500 HP.

I just thought of something in the light that Cobras are somehow different. I believe I read somewhere that the 5.0 Cobras use a MAF calibrated for 19 lb injectors but use 24 lb injectors and somehow get the correct mixtures figured out in the EEC functions.

The Incon system provides a MAF that has 58% more flow than the stock one according to the transfer table. The 30 lb injectors are also ~58% larger than 19s, but only 25% bigger than 24s, so it appears that the new MAF flow closely matched to the larger injectors, but the screwy 19:24 relationship would make the stock fuel functions and calculations in the background wrong with the larger injectors and a correct MAF function table, wouldn't it- at least in the Cobra's.

I really don't understand a lot of this, but would appreciate some ideas how to get the fuel/air mix into the ballpark.
