Tuning question
I am looking at buying a tweecer and just wanted to know to know if i need to change everything or if i can only change some things. I am new to this kind of tuning and no one in my are is very famillar with this stuff.
You don't need to change everything in any imaginable buildup. Idle, timing, and fuel are the big things to tackle first. Then, as you become more comfortable with what's going on behind the scenes, you'll start looking at the little things to improve idle quality, injector timing, etc.
Big lesson: If you don't know what something does, or don't have a way to gauge the response, you might not want to mess with it. For the most part the EEC works well enough, you'll just be fine tuning for more power, better manners, and your particular mods.
Unless you're one of those people who "just don't get it" after fooling around with something after awhile (like my dad with any microsoft products), it will eventually not seem so daunting. Besides, we're all here to help.

tuning question
Thank for the info, I just don't want to get to a point where my car will not run if I change something. But if you can only change a few things and not have to program the whole thing that will make it easier then I thought. There is no one in my area to help me so I will be doing this by myself. Can i just cange the air/fuel mixture, timing, and fuel and have the car run without touching other things. Please let me know, Thanks Eric
8650STANG,
I know your feelings. Here is what I have found out as a really newbie to this TwEECer RT thing.
If you haven't bought it yet and want to start learning the basics about it then go to www.tweecer.com Click on downloads and download the manual and read it. It will explain enough of the things about the TwEECer to get you going. Then you can start reading these pages for general knowledge on the thing as well.
Once you get it you can go to the dowload page at www.tweecer.com and download all the software you're going to need (this depends on which one you get). After you download the software, you load it on your laptop or desktop (I have loaded it on my desktop for now, until I find and buy a nice, compatible used laptop). You can then really start going to work.
The TwEECer will let you load 4 tunes in your car. It comes with a box and switch that will adjust to 5 different settings (the fifth one is the stock setting for whatever computer you have in your car and never changes, but is a default setting that is always there for you, you download this computer binary on the prementioned website as well). Start reading on things like open loop, closed loop, rev limiter settings, startup fuel, turning off the EGR, et. so you can get a good idea on how to set a initial tune for the first time you hook it up to your car.
I have been spending the day just reading this site and the manual and writing down things I am going to set in my initial tune. Then I am going to go back and set one up. My engine is being built and will be done shortly. I am setting up a tune for it right now and will use it to see how it works when I get it going.
Your going to be amazed and intimidated initially at all the different parameters you can set on this thing. It really is amazing. Like the other poster said, don't mess with anything you don't know and just set a basic setup and go from there. You REALLY need to read this board and when you come to a question on "how to set my rev limiter" just click on search on this site and type in rev limiter and you will have three pages of posts that talk about or reference doing this kind of thing pop up.
For the A9L (89 to 93 Fox Stangs) computer, I read a great post by Ed Hohenburg on how to set it. I am going to preset this in my TwEECer program this evening when I get home.
The only problems I had were getting the thing properly loaded. It took some time, however, I believe all this research and time is going to be worth it. I am reading some awesome stuff on this thing and am happy I bought it and I haven't even hooked it up yet.....lol.
Just e-mail me if you have any questions on newbie stuff. I will help when I can as I am sure the older TwEECer users on this board are tired of anwering our newbie questions time and time again. :D
Best of luck to you,
Ed Stettin
