Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Most definately...and recommended that he do just that. You'll need to get a wiring diagram of what pins go to where on the EEC harness and repin the harness for inconsistencies. However if it is already got a MAF on it, it may already be "converted". I always thought the trucks were Speed Density and thus didn't have a MAF to start with. I don't know much about the F150s to know when they went MAF. Perhaps others on the board will know for sure. But in short to answer the question, yes it is quite possible to swap it out and put a more supported EEC in there.

That should be all it takes. I can't think of anything the Mustang EEC might expect that you will need or something your engine will have that the Mustang EEC doesn't expect. Since you are planning on getting a tuning device, just make sure its a TwEECer. If you aren't familiar with TwEECer (which I believe you are), read over the FAQ on what to know before getting a TwEECer.

I believe that EEC is a CBAZ0 EEC which means it is going to be very similar to the 94-95 Mustang CBAZA and it is quite possible the CBAZA is a direct fit.

Is the truck 2wd or 4wd? If it is 4wd, you may need to stick with your EEC. The good news is the Moates Quarterhorse is now an option so you don't need to spend all that money on a TwEECer. Either way TwEECer or QH, you can buy a license to use sailorbob's CBAZ0 def file with BinaryEditor. If the differences between CBAZ0 and CBAZA are like the differences between the 3 GUFx strats, then 99% of everything that you read about how CBAZA works should apply to your CBAZ0 EEC as well.

Do you know what strategy BIO1 is? If it is CBAZ0, then why is it not supported?

BIO0 is a supported AHACA strategy, so it's probable that this would work for BIO1 as well.

Something nobody has mentioned yet is the transmission. If it's an automatic, then it's going to be controlled by the ECM, and I don't believe an unmodified 4R70W ECM can control an E4OD. So the mustang ECM may be problematic.

A BIO0 ECM controls an E4OD, and has a MAF and manages 2 EGOs. I believe its engine control strategies are similar to the A9P, although I'm sure I'll be corrected if that's wrong. I had thought that the BIO0 (and probably the BIO1) were from the 351 engine with an E4OD so you may already have had an ECM change. It could be original though.

Interesting. Do you know which tranny? You can't tell 4R70W from E4OD by the selector, but underneath, the E4OD has a much bigger rectangular pan. An AOD you can tell from the selector, it's not computer controlled, so if you don't have that one, then you'll need an ECM to control the transmission; the A9P won't do that.

Do you have any way to download the bin file from the ECM? The BIO0 was definitely looking for 2 EGOs, so only having one on a BIO1 is interesting.

One bank.

I'd be very surprised if it's not an E4OD transmission. First time I've heard of a BIO1 PCM. Then again, I keep up on the 5.8L stuff only, not 5.0L.

I think that falls under the VEX1/WAY1 definition, IIRC. No biggie to pull the binary and check it with BE, though. Either way, the supports getting better and better for trucks and other vehicles as nerds like me keep expanding the definition files.

Well....for those using Clint's awesome softwares, anyway. As for those using Glover's, not so much. OPEN-SOURCE YOUR DEFS, MIKE!

Yes, HOG) is almost identical to VEX1/WAY1 already has a MAF, should be no need to go to a different ECU.

Good thread, I have a 83 GT that I am running a carb on but plan on doing a 5.8 EFI swap using a 91 E-350 that I have for the donor. I plan on swaping it over bone stock with the original donor ECM intact to work out all other bugs then converting to a CBAZA or A9L style ECM to allow tunability with engine mods.

My concern is will a twin bore E-350/F series throttle body have a compatable TPS,IAC and airflow caracteristic as the mustang single bore throttle body that the new ECM originaly controled?

I would love to hear from someone that has done this swap while retaining the original truck manifold rather than going to a 5.8 GT-40 or similar.

Saving up for a 5" crome muffler stuck a foot out past the bumper, a huge aftermarket rear wing and chinese stickers to make myself the BOMB.

It sucks being poor, life's hard when your dumb and it hurts to be fat, but when you combine the three it drives the chicks wild.

Anyone know if a GUFX ECU will jive with a F/E series twin bore throttle body?

Cool Beans, thats something I have been curious about for a while.

I know the 5.8 truck motor is a low-po mofo, but I have a 2" cowl hood on the car already so it should clear and eventually plan to go with a more potent intake and cylinder head combo.

Wonder if severe porting of the truck intake would be worth the effort?

I would like to keep it a low RPM smooth idle engine and maybe use a little giggle juice to keep from getting laughed at for having a 15 sec mustang with a 2" cowl fiberglass hood.

Anyway, thanks for posting an answer, much apreciated.

The 5.8L truck intake is probably one of the worst-flowing EFI intake manifolds ever made. Porting will not help, as the radius in the lower manifold is extremely tight. Trick Flow and Edelbrock both have pieces to fit the 5.8L.
