This is where the BIN Hackers and definition junkies discuss the inner workings of the EEC code and hardware. General tuning questions do not go here. Only technical/hardware-specific/code questions and discussions belong here.

CNAB1 questions and definition file request

Post by Mudog715 » Sat Dec 12, 2009 3:40 am

Anyone done a definition file for this strategy (1998 F-150 4.6L)? I'd really like to use BE to tune it but right now only Tweecer seems to have any support for it.

Also, I have a couple of tech questions that may apply to the other 4.6L strategies of the same era ('97-98):

1. what happens when the EEC loses the CID sensor signal? Does it revert to batch-fire? It would have to, right, since it has no idea when it's on cyl 1? Or does it continue to sequentially fire the injectors, using the first TDC it sees as Cyl 1? Or does it "guess" at Cyl 1 based on the missing tooth from the CKP sensor, on the basis that it has a 50/50 shot of getting it right?

2. are the injector timing values the Injector CLOSE point or OPEN point on this strategy? I thought they were normally CLOSE because on my AGANN EEC-V the stock values were >360, on CNAB1 the stock values are around 270 which leads me to believe they are for the OPEN point, but I'd like to have confirmation on this.

3. any idea if CNAB1 actually has E4OD support in it? I know I can change TSTRAT=4 but what if there is no E4OD code in there in the first place? What happens if you set TSTRAT to a transmission strategy setting that has no support in the BIN? The reason I ask is that I don't see why Ford would waste the space in the BIN for transmission strategies that would likely never be used in the application the EEC was expected to be deployed in (ie why would they include automatic transaxle support in an EEC destined for rear-drive only applications)? My guess is they wouldn't.

4. Anyone played around with the failsafe cooling function? I find the whole concept intriguing, however I can't locate any of the functions/tables that control it other than the CHT_HP (cyl head temp hardware present) scalar in Tweecer.

In case you're wondering, I grafted a 36-1 trigger wheel and VRS CID sensor on to my 460, which also morphed into a roller-cammed, bored-and-stroked 521, and I'm running it off a CNAB1 EEC-V. Everything seems to be fine except a very rough idle (revs clean) and some transmission control quirks.
