After seven long months (well, that's just since I pulled the block out of the E-350 van 30 DEC 2009, the car has been mostly inop for the last ten years!), it is finally moving under its own power!
There are definitely some bugs to work out, but I have a great starting point!

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
Err...and this should probably be in the Lounge. I'll post up my datalog from this brief run to help it fit into this forum. When I was backing the car back into the garage, I stalled it. BE encountered a problem and shut down on my computer. The car wouldn't restart at all after that and sounded like it wasn't getting spark and/or fuel. I was out of time and had to get ready for work, so I had my neighbor help me push it into the garage and I'll work with it more tomorrow.

no prob, it was my pleasure
you maxed out the maf
im looking at your log now
you maxed out the maf
im looking at your log now
Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
I'm just now looking at the log in EA myself. Now reading the help file it says, "The values in the first two columns of the MAF table are Volt 1 and Flow 1 whichdecipha wrote:you maxed out the maf![]()
will appear in the graph as MAF Curve #1. This is the primary curve which must
represent the MAF curve that was used by the EEC when the data log was captured."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I need to go through the file you sent me last night and make certain that MAF transfer curve is the same as what I'm reading in the table on the left for volt1 and flow1, and if it's not, change it in EA to make certain the displayed graph is accurate. Does that sound right?
As for maxing out the maf, I must not be looking at the correct column of info. Where do you see this?

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
she looks good, the data-log looks really nice and healthy
when you open the datalog in EA scroll over to the mafv column and click it, doing so will organize it neumerically, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the highest mafv you reached, 4.8v is maxed
i looked at the end of the log where you tried to crank her a few times, she didn't want to fire because she wasn't getting enough air, the throttle blade needs to be opened more, you want to target ~35-45% isc duty cycle at warm idle, and you'd be golden
also a tad more fuel at crank would help out as well, go to FN348 Fuel - Cranking Pulsewidth vs ECT
multiply the whole second column "ms" by 2, you can simply highlight the whole second column with the mouse then right click multiply 2 enter
if done correctly it should look like
65534 1.60
180 1.60
150 1.84
70 4.56
40 8.40
20 11.30
0 17.52
-20 31.00
-65536 31.00
also go change the lolod scalar, go set that to 28 and set the lolodh scalar to 3, that will force open loop at low loads to prevent your long tubes from skewing fuel
btw.. the video you posted is private, it won't let me view it
open up binary editor go to FN036 MAF Transfer, right underneath the drop down box you'll see a red arrow pointing right, position the mouse over it and it will say 'maf export' click it and save it with a name like "070810-1" so you don't get it mixed up in the future, don't forget where you saved it
go open EA, select the maf tab, at the bottom left you'll see the save and calculate buttons, the button in between is maf import, click that and select the file you exported with BE
once you import it click on save and name it something like "070810-1"
you can calculate a new maf transfer using the closed loop and long term fuel trim filters
you can hold out on doing that just yet, get yourself a good log also looking at the initial crank you need more fuel down low, take everything from 1.8v down on the maf transfer fn036 and multiply it by 1.2, then take 2.2v, 2v, and 1.9v and multiply it by 1.15
if done correctly it should now look like
2.8000 279.761
2.6001 232.554
2.3999 192.633
2.2000 183.762

1.8000 132.435
1.7000 119.762
1.6001 108.039
1.5000 96.633

1.2000 63.049
1.1001 52.594
1.0000 43.089
0.8000 29.148
0.6001 31.683
0.3999 15.525
0.0000 0.000
now take the whole maf transfer curve, and multiply it be 1.05, your top value at 16v will now be 1366.490 and the second lowest value .4v will be 16.158
that will get you closer to where you need to be for now and will help out idle tremendously, now its up to you to tune the rest from here.
it would be wise to go to the hardware tab in binary editor and change the tag from lc_1_02 to AFR

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
Awesome. A post like that is going to help me learn how to use this software better than anything. I really appreciate the time you put into typing all that out. As for the video, it's just me pulling out of the garage and taking off down the street. BTW, my trac-loc apparently isn't working! LOL...My culdesac now has a single tire mark from my driveway to the other side. My wife took the video using her Blackberry and posted it to her Facebook account, which she has on super secret lockdown. I asked her to make it public, but she was only willing to go as far as "Friends of friends" on it. When I get home from work in the morning I'll transfer it to my computer and upload it to YouTube and post the link in this thread.
I was reading another great thread on here about MAF meters and such, but I can't find it again. (Just kidding...found it! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16621) Between that thread and seeing that I've pegged this meter on the datalog, I've convinced myself that I need to pick up a Lightning 90mm meter. I really should have ordered one long ago and wanted to, but was anxious to get up and running.
I had significant bucking and stalling under 2000 RPM. What is the best way to tune that to run smoother? Also, I'd like to see if I can get a stable idle closer to 900 RPM rather than 1100.
Edit: All changes have been made in BE and saved...ready to load in the afternoon after I get a few hours of sleep. If I want to lower the idle, these would be the proper PIDs to adjust, correct? HWRPM, DRBASE, NUBASE
Thanks again,
Jonathan

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
don't worry about the other scalars just use NUBASE set it to 896
then you'll need to go to fn824 Idle - ISC Gain Multiplier vs RPM
you'll need to change it to this
4080 1.00
1280 1.00
1088 1.00
880 1.00
800 3.98
0 3.98
0 3.98
that function adds air when the rpm's drop below desired idle
those changes you made above in the previous post is going to fix your surging and bucking at low rpms, by increasing the maf transfer you added more fuel, she was dehydrated before now she should be extra well nourished
also a side note, whenever you adjust fueling either the maf transfer or injector settings you should clear the kam's you can do that buy loading a corrupted tune, using the kam clear scalar, or disconnecting the battery
i usually use the kam clear switch, just set it in the tune, update, then disable it, update again
you'll know kam's are cleared because the kams will stay at 1, for a little bit at least

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
I have two datalogs from today. One is almost 4 MB, which is too large to attach here, so here is the other. I took the car to the gas station today and filled it up. When I got back to the house, fuel was pouring from the gas tank out onto the ground. My friend and I had to siphon all that gas out and put it in my family wagon. We dropped the tank and found that the O-ring gasket under the lock ring for the fuel level sending unit was torn. A trip to the Ford Stealership got us a new O-ring and a new tank to filler neck seal. $30!!! They didn't even tickle me or give me a kiss either.
So this datalog was from the trip from the gas station to the house and includes at least one good full throttle blast. The car is pulling really hard. I can't imagine what it would be like with a decent set of heads on it. It is still surging below 2k rpm though. That's due to it being lean? I have ordered a 90mm Lightning MAF meter. Hopefully that will fix the problem of the meter pegging out.

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
shes bucking cuz she's lean between 1.5-2.4mafv she needs to be enrichened I would drop in ~6% more fuel there, go select those values and right click then multiply by 1.06
should look like
2.6001 244.276
2.3999 214.178
2.2000 204.673
2.0000 169.821
1.8999 154.930
1.8000 147.326
1.7000 133.386
1.6001 120.079
1.5000 107.406
1.3999 89.346
I used some filters in the datalog to conclude that, I used the filters ts 0/0, so it filters out everything except for part throttle, TS -1 is closed throttle, 0 part throttle, 1 WOT
I then organized the afr numerically by clicking on the column at the top, i scrolled down to the bottom where it was lean and started at 14.7x and went over to the mafv, i then scrolled down and made mental notes of the voltages just keeping track of the average low voltage and the average high voltage
from 3v-4.6v she needs to be richened by ~3%, I used the filters, ts 1/1, lambse 12.4/12.5, I then clicked on the mafv tab to arrange it numerically, since i filtered out the lambse at 12.4xx, I only need to pay attention to the afr to see how much it varies from the commanded afr (lambse), up top at 4.8v where its pegging the maf, its actually rich which is great :)
if you add that 3% (multiply by 1.03) then it should look like this
4.8000 1156.432
4.6001 1027.481
4.3999 905.502
4.2000 807.601
4.0000 722.057
3.8000 643.483
3.6001 568.077
3.3999 495.206
3.2000 425.503
3.0000 360.870
2.8000 293.702
those percentages, I just kinda 'guessed' at how much I think it needs to be enriched just by how far off the afr is from the lambse, kinda just a feel type thing, Im sure theres a calculation for it but I just go by gut
just to keep everything somewhat linear, take the values at 2.6 and 2.8 and add 4.5% (multiply by 1.045) it should look like
3.0000 360.870
2.8000 307.009
2.6001 255.365
2.3999 214.178
that will get you pretty darn close to almost spot on I would think, after making those changes, you can go out and beat on her like a red head step child
now take everything from 1.4v on down and add 10%, doing so will look like this
1.5000 107.406
1.3999 98.217
1.3000 85.861
1.2000 72.871
1.1001 60.515
1.0000 49.742
0.8000 33.901
0.6001 36.436
0.3999 17.743
0.0000 0.000
I used the filters, ts -1/-1, pw1 1/99. mph 0/0, afr 9/20, rpm 900,1400
that way I can see what its doing at idle and get a pretty good understanding of it
I know we already added to 1.4v but adding to it some more won't hurt, so what if it goes a little rich there adaptives will pull fuel and you can get much closer using the maf tab in EA using CL and LTFT once you get some miles on her
I know you got the lmaf coming but you might as well get the maf you have now straightened out, I don't see any reason why you can't run with what you have now, also don't forget to save the transfer your using for the maf now, that way when you get rid of it or use it on something else you have something to start with
YOU WILL NEED TO CLEAR THE KAM'S
should look like
2.6001 244.276
2.3999 214.178
2.2000 204.673
2.0000 169.821

that will get you pretty darn close to almost spot on I would think, after making those changes, you can go out and beat on her like a red head step child
now take everything from 1.4v on down and add 10%, doing so will look like this
1.5000 107.406
Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
Errr...uh oh...I'm sitting on the side of the road. I was taking my car for an alignment and done the latest updates yet. I was being very gentle on the car. I pulled out of my neighborhood and the motor just died. There was a huge backfire and I can't restart. The only thing I did different from yesterday was tighten up the header bolts at the heads to try to stop the exhaust leaks. Unfortunately, I wasn't datalogging either. I may be calling a tow truck to get me back to the house. I'm going to try to get the tune updated before my battery dies.
Here's a DL of an attempted restart:

ROFL! No worries. I was checking things out under the hood and found that one of the wires on my MSD harness pulled out of the back of the connector. I pushed it back in and it fired right up! Phew! I was in a bit of a panic and had already called a tow truck. I was able to cancel that call in time and saved myself $85.

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
I haven't even cranked it up since I drove it home from the shop on Tuesday from having the trac-loc rebuilt. I've replaced the driver's side head gasket and installed a vacuum reservoir (hoping that will help the braking performance) over the past two days. My Lightning MAF came in today, but haven't had a chance to install it yet because I've been working on getting the AC fixed and charged, which is what I'm in the middle of right now. We're supposed to be leaving for Myrtle Beach at 10 in the morning and I am no where NEAR ready! I think it's going to be a long night.decipha wrote:any updates? have you tuned her more??
As far as the new MAF, I should be able to just select the transfer curve out of EA and put it in the original tune you sent me, correct? Also, what was the decel function you mentioned that I need to disable to get low rpm bucking to settle down?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Re: Many thanks to Decipha! It runs...
yeah you can just drop the lightning maf curve from EA in there and be done with it
just go disable decel fuel shut off, there's a switch scalar for it
