EEC-IV I/O hardware differences

Post by mpaton » Tue Jul 14, 2009 12:20 am

What is known about the hardware differences between the latest EEC-IV variants (ie the 56k binary ones)?

For example

1 Here's a thread in another forum discussing wiring up a second HEGO on a HOG0 catch code. Original poster thought the only issue was which pins to wire the 2nd HEGO to. Later poster said hardware would be missing, and software would be wrong.

However I've half disassembled a HOG0 bin, and all the code looks like it' sthere, as long as you find a way t oset NUMEGO from 1 to 2. And I'm sure that all 13 A-D channels are going to be there, although I'm not certain that there will be pins from the outside of the case onto the chip.

2 What is known about the UART/CART hardware mentioned in the LHBL docs. Currently I suspect that there's a device memory mapped in around 0920 - 0930, but I'm far from certain.

3 EPC variable force solenoids as used on E4OD transmissions. Are these only there on EEC-IVs that need them, or are they cheap enough that they're always on the board, just perhaps not wired up to pins.

Just an FYI if Ryan said that the hardware is missing then it is normally missing...

We had that problem on some of the A9x EEC's and trying to use an electric fan buy activating it in the code. Some of them would not work as the physical hardware is not there...

This can be a problem when someone has there car setup to use an A9x series EEC and an electric fan, or what ever they are running....and the EEC fails and they buy a replacement. They get the replacement and sometimes the actual hardware that they were using is now missing in the replacement EEC...

At one time there was a list of hardware codes for different EEC's floating around on the internet but I haven't seen it in a long time...

Just because the "code" includes something like electric fans for example that does not mean the actual hardware is available to implement it..

This was noticed when someone compared an A9L with an X3Z. I suspected the missing components were probably things like the fan control. Both are missing the knock sensor control, and always have.

The 3.8L Tbird (GURE) EECs do have the knock sensor stuff. But I don't know if they also included and used the fan control stuff too. Interestingly, using a Moates chip/QH, you can run GUFx code on a GURE-based EEC. Since GUFx strats include knock sensor logic, you can also activate that and make use of the GURE's knock logic. Although from what I understand, most people with these EECs were quick to turn that logic OFF because the stock tunes were notorious for detecting false-positive knock signals and needlessly pulling spark when the engine wasn't really knocking.
