Why wont anyone tell me my ideas will NOT work?

Post by RUBE » Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:50 pm

I have post what i am trying to do and have asked questions along the way. Response has been nonexistent to vague. decipha came closest when he said for me not to be disappointed when cdap2 would not do what i told it. At least that was a hint. I also asked what is the BEST SUPPORTED box that would serve my needs. Apparently no one has any ideas.
Onward i go. Picked up couple of well supported 94-95 t-bird cougar boxes, but after further study of the pinouts compared to mine, dont think they will work either. Dont think they will support imrc and edis functions?
It now looks like maybe crai8 craj0 cvae6or7 might work. Then we make it run the v-6s?
I have owned 4 brand new vehicles in my life and no one but myself has worked on anything except for warranty. In keeping with that i decided to try tuning. I dont have to control a 5000hp dragster or a mustang or t-bird or anything like that. Look at my sig.
Just like the things you all have, you want it to do something the way you want it to do it.
When i need 4x4 i want it all , not in and out, in goes manual hi lo transfercase. I prefer manual trans 5spd, out goes eaod. The vw is a daily driver. The old 86 3.8 it had has over 200k on it only 10# oil press at idle 25 at cruise and bleeding all over. Transplant 99 3.8 windstar, doesnt hurt that it has 30% more hp. I still like to go fast too.
So would someone just shoot me in the head and put me out of my misery or just tell me THAT WILL NOT WORK go look at this or that.
Now that i have vented, back to the task at hand, ill continue to look for a box that WILL work. i hope.
Thanks to all for reading,
And may you all have the perfect tune

I read your post, but my deafining silence was because I honestly didn't know. I suspected that a 98ish Mustang EEC would probably do what you needed. But I didn't want to recommend it if I didn't know for sure. I suspect others were in the same boat. That said, I too was surprised you didn't get more thoughts and answers.

i recommended you get a guf ecu since all the values are there to run a v6, same as cbaza

you replied that those were rare where you are located and were probably next to impossible to find

I then said a crai8 would be my next choice, but then you got the 94-95 mn12 ecu which isn't as greatly supported as others

in the end i don't see anything your trying to do thats so special that any ecu can't do it, if i were you i'd run it with what i have and be done with it

decipha
you have me confused with someone else, replying to as many questions as you do, i can understand why. it was a pza2 97 towncar. you had prior disliked cdan4. this is the first i have heard of crai8, thats the area i am studying now. the history i have on mustang at least on 3.8 was updated to splitport heads shows 99. did the 4.6 have them earlier? i had thoughts that a shift function could be used to open and close the runners? if need be
if im wrong just say so.
Thank you;

ahh i see, perhaps, but in any case i would just leave the runners wide open and enjoy the powah

my money would go with the cbaza ecu for that specific app, i planned on putting the cdan4 zxa3 ecu in my 91 with a 4r70w but then I discovered the zxa3 ecu is for the 96 sohc gt with a 5spd

so once more i have yet another ecu that will be shelved for a rainy day

the biggest possible problem i think might be the exhaust system. its only about 2 feet long on each side. comes off the manifold makes about 120 degree turn in 10 inches then 6 in of pipe and a 18 in glass pack. does cbaza work with edis or imrc?
wouldnt it run over rich with the runners open all the time.?
ive got a pair of ccaqa s to take back along with the pza2
Good to hear back from you

Due to the proprietary nature of BE and some difficulty finding complete connector diagrams I have not been able to test this so far - but as far as I can tell ....

CDAN4 strategy was used to control the 96 - 97 Cobras. They have a 'normal' return style fuel system and EDIS and are decently supported by BE.

I can load 4 valve, IMRC calibrations into my GT Mustang CDAN4 EEC without errors and the car will run.

Even the GT, 2V calibrations have all the code and tables for the IMRC control but there is a switch - IMRC hardware present - that is set to 'no'. It also has switches for vacuum or electric control of the IMRC and different sensors that can monitor IMRC position. I do not know if the electrical hardware is present in the GT EEC to actually open the IMRC or monitor the sensors or what pins on the connector they would be connected to since it does seem the GT uses different pin-out than the Cobra - and I can't find a list of what the unused pins on an EEC are connected to if anything. go figure

Of course these are an EEC-V strategy and box. If you need an EEC-IV strategy - something like the 93-95 Lincoln MkVIII box will run EDIS and IMRC and there is support in BE under the CZAJL strategy for them but I have not examined them much.

As far as using an 8 cyl box and code to run a V6 - that has been covered here elsewhere. There is a lot of info out on the net if you go looking for it. google google goolgle

i have a pinout here that you posted not long ago for 94-95 4.6 that shows idm pip spout but no coil drivers. in my ignorance i am assuming that 3 coil drivers are needed for a v-6 :?: or is there another way. i have 2 boxes ccaq here one from 94 t-bird and one from 94 cougar and i believe they both were v-8 autos with distributors.

i picked up a cdap2 pza2 a while back from 97 towncar cant remember why backed off from it. it as well as other bin and defs by paul booth are listed at gonzos dont know how complete they are. been to occupied with just getting this system shoehorned into the tail end of vw. just about done. still have about a week before i have to decide if i keep it or take it back. the yard has a 30 return policy no questions.

nope the 94 tbirds were all edis

the coil drivers are done by the edis module not the ecu

  just came across a piece by bruce bowling that i got somewhere and saved. i had read it before but didnt pay attention
Now i see
it takes awhile sometimes but eventually it takes ahold. just another example of how dense i can be. so the ecm tells the icm when to do it the icm tells the coil pack where and how to do its thing.
looks like i need an icm for edis 6 and some more loom and connectors. back to the yard. gaud im glad they are so cheap. i paid $3 for imrc unit just so i could tear it apart and look inside. looks like maybe transistorized switch for reversing a little chinese motor with a magnetic clutch. motor doesnt stop when mech reaches its limit. keeps on spinning. may be 5 volts because it didnt function with 12 at the plugin. there was a lot of rust and corrosion inside. may have blown a component. 12 works when applied to the wires on the motor. cheap price for a little more understanding.
so it looks like just about anything will when you put the proper pieces together.
still have one cdap2 and 2 ccaq 's but if you guys think the crai8 would be a better unit i can probably find a couple of those instead.
i tried to get this posted before anybody caught me but you were too fast.

Appreciate the additional help, thanks

i personally would say to hell with the imrc and just use a cbaza ecu

the edis module is all independent of the ecu, even with no ecu the plugs still fire at base timing

lot less headaches and what not, IMRC is for stock applications IMO, i would even recommend swapping intakes to one with no imrc provisions or if you want just leave them wide open

thats my .02

decipha;
I really do appreciate and respect your opinion, even tho you are not bending in my direction. i will keep it in mind.
for now it may be moot. i have to get wood up for the winter, maybe you have read what that is  , and hunting season is about to open. so with this thing at least running, il see what it does on the road once i put the plates and ins back on it. then i still have to put 5spd in the 96 van. hopefully both can be finalized this winter if nothing else bends or breaks. maybe i can get this AOAG3 hacked by someone during that time and just run it on both these rigs. like someone on here says "its always something". so true :!:
Thanks again.
count on me bothering you again and keep on keeping on.
