What motor is everyone running/planning on running?
Thought this might be fun. :D
I have stock 302 now, 357 on the stand.

My 357 just got put together
1995 Rio Red GTS
P600B w/3-core IC, Edelbrock Performer heads, RPM intake, Crane 2030 Cam,.....ect
P600B w/3-core IC, Edelbrock Performer heads, RPM intake, Crane 2030 Cam,.....ect
Im runing 88 302 with DA1, ported stock heads, 3.73 gears an SROD.
This in my 85LX
I working on 351w stocker for it, I thinking 393, but not rule 408.
I hope have the engine to a shop for the work next week.
Right now I thinking 393 with 11:1, like roller cam,( bit clostly as I have flat tappit cam block) Not sure how big cam I like run yet, mostly looking for good mid rage power, as this steet car. I thinking long tube headers, I need new header so figger go with long tube, As for heads I not sure have $$ for good ones so, thinking about adding bigger valves and porting the stock E5 351w heads. I very up air on intake like heads I thinking to keep cost down, I thought about reworking a carb intake for injetion.
I had few tail me they think 11:1 to much, had more said it fine with good gas. I been playing with TwEECer for bit, think I tune the mix and timing so I thinking it sould ok.
I can't wait get this engine going but want keep it real so not run out $$ 1/2 though.

I bought my cam at Bennett Racing. It was only $290 or so shipped for a custom grind reduced base circle. I'm tapping the block for the spiders this weekend, just watch the cam bearings, as if you drill to deep, you get into those. My motor I'm building right now is for nitrous, so it is 10.7:1. As long as you run 93 octane, aluminum heads, and be carefull, it is fine.
As far as 351 strokers, I plan on de-stroking my turbo motor. It should end up around a 337-340 cid, 8.5:1. A destroked 351W has lots of ring land and can turn some serious Rs.....add a T-76, custom sheetmetal intake/water-air intercooler, and you have lots of power. :D

Im trying stuf my 351w stoker under the stock hood, sure be fun.
I looking at running carb intake rework for injetion, I plan running a carb like air leaner, as Im running SD so I not have MAF to pipe in. thought about painting 5.0L on the air cleaner, as my car is 85 LX it would been carb, maybe it past as stocker

I've got a 96 GT, 4.6 mod motor. It has forged rods/pistons, cobra crank. ported PI heads with Modmax oversize valves, custom cams with .550lift/228dur@.050, MAC longtubes, Bullitt intake, vortech S trim with 2.87" pullie, 42lb injectors, ProM meter, Aeromtive fuel pump with Steeda fuel rails, etc. At the dyno it looks like it was heading towards 550rwhp on a mustang dyno until it broke but I'll be fixing that soon

What broke?

Dale, I melted no. 8 piston (spark plug electrode was smashed). I was watching my wideband meter, was thinking to myself that it was running a little too lean (12.5-1), saw it head towards 13-1 and just as I was about to let off the gas it spit oil out the breather, hit the headers and caught fire
Some little piece of metal came out the tailpipe too.
Anyway, the motor still turned over, put a new sparkplug in but of course the damage was done, lots of oil buring.
It looked like the engine had some blowby during the runs too, so maybe it was oil induced detonation that took it out, not so much lack of fuel.

Bob, That is not good. :( How much boost were you running? Hope it did not burn up much under the hood. How much damge did it do interanally or do you know yet?boss96 wrote:Dale, I melted no. 8 piston (spark plug electrode was smashed). I have finally found the rods & pistons that I want to put in the '03 Mah 1. I got a call from Jim at ATI (Prochargers) Friday & they have finally came out with a kit to keep the shaker functional. :D I was origianlly going to do turbos, but after doing some research I think I am going to go with the ATI setup, because of heat related stuff & keeping it streetable. I just hope what happened to your engine does not happen to mine. They send a chip with the kit so maybe that will give me a baseline to start with. I am going to try to run 10-12 lbs if everything goes right
Keep us informed on how it turns out. I am interested to see if it hurt the block or not.
Thanks,
Dale
Dale, there was no fire damage to speak of, it just caught fire on the headers from the oil and we put it out quickly.
I'm running a 2.87" pullie on the vortech so that works out to about 15lbs at 6krpm and it could go a little higher at 6500.
I started taking the engine apart tonight but won't know much until I get the motor out of the car. I am expecting some kind of damage to the head since a piece of metal flew out the tailpipe, maybe a damaged valve. The block does not have a hole in it so the only thing will be whether or not the bore is scored too much that going .030 will not clean up. It is already bored .020 so we will have to see and of course I will need new pistons if it can be bored out.
I can get a used block cheap though if I need to so either way it should work out.
What rods and pistons are you getting? There are quite a few manufacturers out there so there should be no problem.
The ATI should be pretty nice, tuning it should not be that hard, just pull timing at high load and give it enough fuel.

Bob, Good deal on the fire damage, I thought it might have gotten more of the under hood stuff. I hope that it did not get the block.
I think I am going to go with the manley Pro I-beam rods, supposed to be good for 800hp @ 7500? And JE or ModMax forged pistons with at least a 17cc dish, probably will be the JE though. There is a guy that lives close by that is running a Pro Turbo Kits turbo on an '03 Mach 1 with stock rods & pistons but I do not think that I want to try to put any boost on mine until I get the junky rods & pistons changed out in mine. I just want a little more insurance.
I think the ATI should be fairly easy to tune, but I will need to do something about the fuel system as I would like to run 10-12 lbs of boost min. Mike Glover is supposed to send me a new file for the '03 Mach 1 to test (datalogging etc.? do not know yet). I have a "ccf" file now but some of the spark tables etc. are skewed or something, does not display correctly. I have sold the 91lx & 93gt so that should give me plenty of green to get the Mach 1 setup the way I want it, maybe after the first of the year before it is finished as Thanksgiving & Christmas are just around the corner. Family stuff you know.
Let me know how the engine turns out.
Thanks,
Dale

It looks like there's some kind of bug in the forum's ability to host a poll. I've tried to edit out the duplicate entries and all it did was make a bigger mess.
