Trouble reading some stock ecu binaries

Post by xafalcon » Thu Sep 16, 2010 5:55 pm

Are there any known problems reading stock EEC4 V8 ecu binaries? I have tried reading about 16 ecus. They are all 5.0 SEFI EEC4 1991-1993, very similar to A9L. About 1/3 can't be read, the hex code only contains FF. The other 2/3 read perfectly.

Is there a read-enable link that needs to be made on certain pcb's?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I'm not aware of any read-link, but assuming you're trying to read through the J3 port, sometimes the contacts take lots of cleaning, and sometimes the removal of some varnish.

Yes, I'm reading through the J3 port. I'm sure it's not a cleaning issue. I have cleaned some of the "unreadible" ecu's 4 or more times and I'm using methylene chloride as the cleaning agent. It dissolves the grease and leaves the contacts perfectly clean. I've inspected the pcbs (right next to each other) very carefully & haven't found any potential read-enable links.
