Another useless SCT thread

Thought I'd point this one out to you guys:

Again, the SCT is "far superior", yet the guy can't give solid reasons why.

More useless than this one?

If you'll notice, the 1st two posts in the thread look like V8Ranger is talking to him self. It's because he deleted my Vaporware comment

Believe it or not, it has turned into a pretty interesting thread over the day. Go back and check it out. It almost got a few people in a tiff, but they got over it and now everyone is friends again... :)

The one you posted isn't about the SCT, it's a hack version by efi solutions. Supposedly the guy who has made it is being sued by Best Products (Pro-M), among others.

He got owned over at the Modular Depot, and even though he is a moderator over the EEC section at the corral (how he pulled that off I don't know), he hasn't been online there since 11/10/03. I have a feeling he got owned there, too.

Wonder if someone reported him to the administrator? :)

Did not realize that was you, Chuck. 8)

It's definitely any interesting thread..

I hope to learn more about it to really see what it has to offer me that the TwEECer doesn't.

I can't think of any benifits other then documented information on each and every table/scalar/function...

I get adaquate help here and I am grateful for it.. If indeed these guys get answers to each and every question they ask with full detail, I guess I can see the big picture..

I was one of the almost got into a tiff. I get so tired of these posts about the benefits and advantages of the SCT product but no one provides any hard data. Always sounds like their mouth puppets being controlled by Jerry and Co.

I'm all for everyone being able to do what they feel is best for their car, I just hate it when someone slams another product they've never used or has no facts to back up a claim for something as better.

If the definition thing is the big selling point.

I am sure before too long that someone will pirate the definitions and post them  We should start a pool of money and just buy 1, hehe.

Ryan,
I'd love to think you're right but if the SCT gang keeps holding info like they are I doubt it. I saw one post by one of them about the info being "proprietary" Really, I hardly doubt it, if so FoMoCo would be sueing.
Here's a quote from the thread over on Corral that David Posea posted: "The list of tuneable parameters is pretty much complete but does span years/models. Sorry, but we won't offer full descriptions of them all because that just helps our competitors out. Every PCM code has access to the full list pof parameters if they are supported in that processor.....Our software checks variuos scalar switch valeus and hides parameters that don't apply based on those settings. Some models are up to over 500 tuneable parameters so we try to limit the list as much as possible for ease if use.
I wrote (with help from Justin!!) the GUI software for the EEC-Tuner. It worked pretty well but never worked on a 99+ I wish it had. Then Mike Glover released the Tweecer, which was supposed to work on a 99+. So I gave Mike all the tuning info I had at the time (mustangs, lightnings, and a few t-birds) so people could tune their own cars. I did that for free by the way.
Now I'm part of SCT and we offer the best tuning software available, and I feel no one can match us for support. We are working on a held held with datalogging right now but it isn't available yet. We do have complete documentation which has never been available with any other product before!!!
I'd like to point out I made the post pasted above becuase not everyone should try to tune their own car. It's an involved process!!! Those that do it know exactly what I mean. I'd rather lose a sale than have an unhappy customer after a sale.
I haven't looked at Tweecer software for many many months so I can't even comment on many things. It had some issues for EEC-V stuff the last time I looked at it. Many parameters were incorrectly mapped. I'm sure this has been fixed by now, but that's where that came from. I don't think we need to bash other products to sell ours, so I don't do that.
We did ask customers who were happy to post thier success stories in public forums, not just in our private user forum. We do not tell them what to say, of course. We would like some exposure to the general market, of course, and posting "I tuned my own car!!!" is done all the time."

I expect they'll be more protective of what they know and learnd than Mike and the Tweecer group has been. Just MHO.

Yeah, but if some person just happened to take a look at his buddies SCT software I'm sure definitions will pop up.

Once a person gets the software, whats stopping them from leaking some of the definitions? I think its just a matter of time.

I know if I was in that situation, I would be willing to share. The only thing that would stop me if they had some stupid license or proprietary protection junk you had to sign. In that case, I'm not sure I'd even consider buying it then.

IMO all it sounds like is a pissing match of who has the most changeable parameters...just like two kids fighting over who got more toys for Christmas. The huge "partial" list of parameters the SCT tuner can change is a compile of all processors Ford has. When is the last time you seen a "wastegate_control_duty_cycle_table" on a A9L processor or even on a Mustang for that fact? Who the hell needs 800 parameters...when is the last time you changed 30?? The FAST & DFI systems doesn't have 800 parameters and that doesn't limit them form putting cars into the 6's.

Is the SCT chip a single program interface or a 4 program interface like the TwEECer?

As far as I can tell, it is a single program if you use the chip, or up to 3 programs if you used the "flash tuner" (EEC V and up, for "reflashing" processors).

So, it you are driving around in fuel economy mode, and wanna jump on the ricer at the redlight, you'll have to roll the window down and ask him to wait a few minutes while you reflash your computer to "performance mode"...  :violen:

IMHO, we have the best value hands down.

EFIpunk is right, when was the last time anyone changed more than 30 things anyway?

True, there are probably a few that had problems gettting the tweecer to do what they wanted it to do (Don95vert comes to mind), but for most of us out there, seems like the tweecer is the best value.

As far at the definitions go, I'm sure a copy (for educational use only) will get out there some time or another... 8)

I posted in the thread that is going in the General Mustang Tech over on the Corral.

I am at a loss for words when I am trying to explain how I feel when they make that claim.

I simply want to know what I can change with that software that I can't change right now..

Hell, how would I know if I want to change something if I don't even know want it is? Does that make sense?

The only things I would like to see from the CalEdit software is:

The original names of scalars/function/tables as named by Ford...but can be renamed by user.

List all s/f/t units (there is some already) and min/max (maybe listed just like units) values.

A user editable text area that can be used to take notes on what that particular item does:)..and able to cut/paste to/from this text area.

Color code the low/mid/high portions of the tables like the EEC Editor.
