QH battery temporary workaround

Post by Chucko » Mon Aug 11, 2014 12:55 pm

I've recently had the dead Quarterhorse battery problem turn up on my '89 Fox body Mustang. I found a workaround until I can replace the battery or the QH.

It's simple: While the engine is still running, plug in a cheap USB charger into the cigarette lighter, and plug the QH cable into the charger.

Obviously this is only going to work for a couple days at a time, but if you need to drive somewhere without your laptop, it will get you there and back.

Howdy Chucko,

Been there, done that too.

Moate's will repair or replace your QH free of charge, all you have to do is pay shipping to them. Fast turn around too.

Thanks Stengun. I've already been in contact with Moates support, and that's what they told me. I'm using the opportunity to get an F3 and Jaybird so I can "set-and-forget" and not worry about batteries while my QH is in the shop.

I thought the same thing until I pulled the QH out and looked at it.

Much, much easier just to ship it back to Moate's.

just take a D battery with a couple wires and back charge the soldering joints for the battery, should be good for a couple months

Howdy,

Actually it will take two D cell batteries for 3VDC to charge the QH's 3VDC battery.

This would be a short term fix but it's still easier to return it to Moate's.

When my battery died the QH would work fine as long as it was connected to my laptop so any device that will connect to the QH's data cord should provide power to the QH.
