Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Another thing I thought of over the weekend - should there be subforums for specific year strategies? For example, in the tweecer forum:

• Fox body processors
• SN95 processors (94-95, 96up ? ) - not familiar enough with the sn95 stuff to say whether or not the 94-95 cars should be split as well. I'm guessing not, but can't say for sure...

I feel the tuning strategies/methods are unique enough to make separate forums a good idea.

While I agree segmentation to gain a more granular setup would benefit to a point, I think creating a bagillion forums would lead to too much confusion, especially for beginners. So I am not sure adding a forum for each strategy, on top of turbo/sc/nitrous/power-adder/NA/etc forums would be such a good idea. Anyone elses thoughts?

Yeah, I was kinda split on that as well. I thought long and hard about it over the weekend.

I guess I just feel that the fox/sn95 stuff is SO different. For example, walt barnes stuff is ENTIRELY sn95 based, and anyone who tries to do any of his stuff on a fox body is going to be chasing their tail.

Another reason is the difference in "breakpoints" between the two families. Load based timing vs. rpm based timing, so forth and so on...

I would say a Forced Induction and a NA section with splits on the Fox and the SN95 platforms. The strategies and tuning methods are completely different

I like the idea of being able to seperate the posts by strategy, but think that dividing them into seperate forums, may lead to less posting from others with a different strategy. While some specific tuning methods from different strategys may not specifically apply to my strategy, there is knowledge to be gained.

I think of stangnet or corral with the 5.0 vs 94-95 seperate forums. I know, with my 94, I hardly ever venture into the 5.0 section, and suspect that most others don't either.

What I've had in mind was more of a strategy tag for each post. Then make those tags searchable. Perhaps each user could have a mandatory default 'strategy tag' and have the thread tagged automatically when started by the thread starter's default tag. Perhaps allow the user to set up (in their preferences) more than 1 strategy tag if he has different cars with different strategys? Then, with those users with more than 1 strategy set up, upon starting a new thread, there could be a radio button selection with which he could select which strategy tag to apply, with his default automatically selected.

Perahps this could be expanded to forced vs NA, also.

Thoughts?

Great, simply great ideas :). I definitely like the idea of allowing users to setup their cars in their profile and consequently marking their posts with their data in some fashion so it is searchable. Anyone else? I think this one is a keeper...

Also, I think splitting 5.0/Fox from SN95 is the way to go, versus each strategy.

Hi All,

Have you considered breaking the forum up by load range?

Meaning what, that is...

For example, idle, regular driving and wide open throttle. Though the different years
may have different stratigies in the processor, the way an end user approaches the
problems is similar -- changing spark or fuel, getting the MAF transfer right, getting
the IAC transfer dialed in and so on. Though the computer may be different, the approach
to solving the problems associated with each load range is usually similar and users can
figure out how to get the same end result on their specific setup.

Breaking the forum up further can be done in each, but I agree that having fifty
bazillion little subforums (subfora?) will makethe board less useful. I would suggest
keeping things organized based on what you are trying to get the car to do, rather
than getting too specific.

Just a thought.

Best regards,

Fritz

I really don't feel that breaking the forums up by load range would be a good idea. Most of the differences are in Fox VS SN95, or a few different strategies. Sure load is something to take into consideration when tuning, but it isn't a night and day difference within a specific strategy, and they are all inter-dependent in various ways. Anyone else feel this way as well?

I will make a post tomorrow which will outline the potential reformation of the forums to see what everyone thinks.

No worries. Just thought I'd throw that out there as a different
way of approaching the thing. I've had other crackpot ideas before,
too  .

It wasn't a bad idea Fritz, I certainly wouldn't call it a "crackpot" idea. It is good to have ideas that force us to think it through - in the end we wind up with the best approach.

Jon, do we have concensus now that it will be broken up by strategy? I like this idea the best after having been confused often by this board by reading something not applicable to my (CBAZA) EEC.

And a few months ago I spent well over 20 hours editing and adding to a Walt Barnes' document he posted on Yahoo asking for feedback, and never heard a response from him. (maybe I didn't send it correctly) :-( Somewhere in this thread it mentions his document as strictly for pre 94 EEC (A9L?). No wonder some of what he wrote there made no sense to me.

If you implement this can you easily groom the posts to position them in the right category? If "yes" then maybe you could sort on the easy ones and the not so easy could be parsed out to your willing helpers here to figure out where they go.

Shaker - Walt's spreadsheet is actually POST fox body stuff. Not much of it works for us fox body guys, but it should work for 94+...

OK as a Cbaza SN95 owner I think the fox sn95 is a must, also as a turbo sn95 I like the break out for NA/FI. Profile based tune is a great idea when setting up your profile (mandatory) require a minimum of the processor and strategy (listed, select one) Those are awesome ideas.

In terms of the modified bins for startup I think you could raise some money to support the site by charging say $1 or $2 for some suggestions something like I upload my log, set up, suggestions or eec analyzer output gets returned. Split up proceeds between you and clint for eec analyzer usage. Even if its just slopes and maf changes or cam timing.

We all know how frustrating it is to start with a little black box and a white USB cable and say now what.

It all sounds wonderful. By the way when did they put the tweecer manual on the download page? That was a long time coming but I am grateful none the less.

I have a few more thoughts.

Perhaps the strategy tag could be listed on the thread listing page (e.g. - viewforum.php?f=2 ) Another column?
Also, I think splitting 5.0/Fox from SN95 is the way to go, versus each strategy.
Where does SN-95 94-95 with it's 5.0 and EEC-IV fit in? It's sorta a hybrid between A9* EEC-IV and 96+ EEC-V...

I also like how stangnet and corral have a short post #1 preview 'on mouse over'. That would be cool.

And some sort of thread subscription would be nice to keep track of threads that you want to watch/keep for easy reference.

How about a 'printer friendly' button/link and functionality to produce a page without graphics and such to make it "printer friendly" for printing? This newly generated page or popup should not paginate, so that all the posts in the thread are on 1 page.

Could we get one of those little light buttons that tells when someone is online or not? Like the one the corral has where the button is green if that person is currently browsing the forums.

How about spliting up to two forums OBDI and OBDII? I for one do more OBDII tuning and spend hours sifting through searchs for OBDII info. I am sure there is a lot of ODBII people that would benifit from this.
