Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

An 'alert' button would let us notify Admin to move or delete the message.

Would admin consider one of the regulars or "Tuning Addicts" to serve as moderator so they could do that?

This is getting worse than my own home email. I'm curious though, why this forum has soo many? I frequent other forums and have not really seen any of this kind of BS.

I wish there was a way to Ekick them in the ballz.

I think the answer lies in the number of moderators for this forum (one!) and how often he frequents us still.

Like I said, the site needs a moderator that's a regular.

I sent a note to Jon asking him to remove these and also asked if he would consider one of us as a moderator to help out. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Yeah, I would volunteer as a moderator - not like it's a lot of work to occasionally have to remove a spam post or two - they're really going off the deep end lately...

This is ridiculous! Does anybody know how to get his attention? I think I'll try an E-mail to Mike Glover, even though it will probably be another exercise in futility. For some reason I have the impression that the two know each other quite well, or at least know how to get to one another.

I don't know how many of you are seeing the SPAM, but we are getting creamed with it. I am in here 2-4 times a day and usually have to remove 2 or 3 of these each day. So bear with me, I will keep it cleaned up but there may be times when I haven't checked for a while, but no more than 24 hours.

Is there a way of tightening up the registration process to stop/reduce spammers getting onto the forum?

Other phpBB forums have those bot-eliminator GIF files that give you a series of wacky numbers and letters that a computer couldn't easily identify but humans have a close chance of seeing. The person registering on the board has to be able to give the proper response and if they can't, they don't get registered. This stops automated registration attempts, but still doesn't stop the ones that actually are typing in those numbers. However since that was implemented over at V8-Ranger.com, I haven't seen spam there since and the moderator logs on maybe once a day if that.

I emailed him requesting details of what it took to implement so I can forward it onto Jon and 2Shaker. I don't know if it is freeware or not...

I now have this feature enabled on my forum, and since then, I get very little spam posts. Every once and a while, one gets through. But like you said... that may be an actual person doing the registration. Before I had this enabled, it was starting to get out of hand. Well, at least for my small little corner of the internet. :)

I've heard there are python scripts that people have written that actually identify the characters in those GIFs. I don't know what their success rate is, but if they can do it at all, that's impressive. I have a hard time making out some of those characters.

But I hear there are other neat ways you can "catch" the bots and that's by programming standard fields as invisible fields, but the bots will find them and attempt to put crap into them thinking they are needed like password fields. But in reality, your script is looking for info to be submitted in these fields and thus catches the bots. A person trying to register wouldn't see the hidden field and would use some other field you provide.

Kinda neat...

Yep, I will look into it soon guys, hopefully tonight or tomorrow. It really depends on when I get some spare time...I am swamped with a bagillion other projects right now.

The idea about the hidden fields, great idea, I will see about implementing that in some manner...as well as looking into that script linked to also.

Sorry for the spam guys, should have something in place to help reduce it soon.

Jon, where are you? I'm removing 10 -15 a day now.

I hate these spammer bastards. If I ever caught one my next place of residence would be jail, but then maybe the judge would sympathize having also been victim to this crap.
