Um...they're open all the time online, mang. 8)

"Budget" and "wide-band" are two words that can seldom be used in the same sentence, but I think others' input would probably be more helpful. Yes, you're EEC-IV, and IIRC the 'switch' isn't an option right now on QH.

If you want a WB that can be trusted and relatively cheap get an NGK powerdex AFX.

Since you are talking affordable, you also need to keep in mind that BE can interface directly with the Innovate LC-1's serial connection, thus you don't require a DataQ A/D converter to datalog the WB along with your QH. Any other WB would require a DataQ to interface and be datalogged with BE.

The one thing I can say about the LC-1 is it datalogs slow, but fast enough. However if you are looking for high speed datalogging, you might still want to invest in a DataQ just to get higher logging rates. If you do decide to use a DataQ, then whatever WB you choose will be just fine.

Google DataQ. The DI-148 is the USB-version that's around $50+s/h.

There's a cheaper version that's $25, but it's RS-232, instead of USB. So just like with the LC-1, you'd need a USB-to-232 converter OR have an available RS-232 on your laptop. Really expensive laptops or older laptops still have them. But most laptops today simply don't have them.

My laptop has many older style connections how would i know which one might be rs-232? Although if the lc-1 has all i need that will probably be the one for me it is also one of the least expensive ones. Thanx for the help.

An RS-232 serial connection is a 9-pin D connection.

I was curious about the RS-232 standard, so I looked it up and noted that it originally recommended a DB-25 connector, but obviously the DE-9 (commonly mistakenly called the DB9) is the only connector you'll see on any PC/laptop these days.

The BE software that supports the QH is up on the site. Since there were some major revision, you will need to uninstall the version you have and then install the one from the web site. The def files have been updated too. Not all def files are supported yet but the GUFB is. You will see the download page has changed.

It also appears that craig is making some last minute updates to the QH. I will need to get BE caught up. The update is for multiple tune capability. The single tune portion should be untouched i believe.

Don't get rid of your *.lic license file. Keep that. So don't uninstall then delete your old install directory. Just uninstall. The uninstall process shouldn't delete that *.lic file. But it would be a good idea to have a few copies of that file just to make sure you don't loose it.

i dont know if its just me but i am real EXCITED about the real time tuning capabilities. its happened quite often where i am wanting to make a SMALL tweak and be able to note the change. like a maf tweak at idle or something. but with the tweecer usually the car will stall or hiccup as it switched to the stock tune, so i lose the stabilized condition at idle.

it should make the initial dial-ins with maf, slopes and offsets etc go alot smoother, will be able to hammer in values and try them out real fast to find whats going to work.

This is how things "should" always work... at least in my opinion. I know our EEC's are "old" compared to today's standards but with what we can do today in terms of technology, it's about time someone releases a product that can do this. On top of that, they managed to make it so we can datalog more than anybody else - I love it. After thinking it over, I came to the conclusion that I likely won't be touching multiple tunes as power and efficiency/economy go hand in hand. For emissions testing, I figure just upload a new tune (new engine should pass without issues but a little extra can't hurt). Keep a spare stock BIN on hand and there isn't a need for a home tuner to need to read the stock settings from the EEC.

Overall, on paper this looks like a great product. Hopefully it'll arrive soon so I can yank the TwEECer and get the EEC all the way back in its hole.

Good choice on using the Xilinx XC95288XL CPLD, btw.

EDIT: For some reason, there was a Ford binary already loaded onto my QH...? My guess is that it's there from testing; it was dated FoMoCo 2002 in the last few bytes of the binary. Good to know you guys tested these. My compliments on the cleanness of the PCB layout. What are you guys using for PCB design, btw? I've used EAGLE with great success for a 3-phase BLDC board I made based on a PIC18F, but I don't know what else is really out there in the "real world."

I wish I could say that I've plugged it in and have run it, but I'm intermittently writing a persuasive essay that's due tomorrow.

Yup. For the moment.

I'm originally from Ida, a small farm town in the south-east corner of the state. I've been at GVSU for a few years (hopefully not too many more), pursuing a BS in electrical engineering, and I'm living in Jenison now. This side of Michigan is much more....alive than the other, I'll leave it at that. lol
1993/4/5 Full-Size Bronco:

  • ~15/22 mi/gal in a 5000-lbm tool shed
